The U.S.ENGLISH Foundation has provided a number of grants, both financial and in-kind, to local organizations in need of assistance. These grants help local volunteer organizations keep their doors open so they can serve their communities by teaching Adult English classes.
A U.S.ENGLISH Foundation grant enabled the Villa Maria Center in Erie, Pennsylvania to create an ESL program to serve the area's growing immigrant population. Recently, the U.S.ENGLISH Foundation donated a passenger van to the Villa Maria Center. The van allows immigrants who lack transportation to come to the center and take English classes.
Other U.S.ENGLISH Foundation grants have allowed community organizations (among them "Literacy Volunteers of America" and "Read Institute") to purchase training materials for their tutors and to continue with programs that are succeeding in teaching English to immigrants.
